Employment For Independent Living Program

The Human Resource Development Foundation, Inc. (HRDF) has developed a program to assist youth aging out of foster care to end dependence on governmental benefits by promoting job preparation and work. The program is funded by a grant from the Department of Health and Human Resources.

The purpose of the Employment for Independent Living Program is to offer youth an opportunity to develop job-seeking skills, acquire employment, develop an employment history, learn regular work habits, develop basic skills needed to succeed in the workplace, and retain employment.

Program Components consist of Orientation/Assessment, Job Search, and Job Development, Placement, and Retention. As with other HRDF programs, HRDF will perform follow-up activities with all participants.

Senior Works Plus Program

This program provides unemployed and financially disadvantaged older workers with the necessary skills to compete for ample employment with sufficient wages and benefits in an aggressive labor market. Training and support services, accessed through the program, are provided in a concerted effort with the Title V Senior Community Service Employment Programs (SCSEP)'s. All program participants must be enrolled in a Title V Program prior to receiving Senior Works Plus Program Services.

YouthReady (Out-of-School Youth Program)

YouthReady Program (Region VI): Monongalia, Marion, Preston, Taylor, Harrison, Barbour, Doddridge, Lewis, and Gilmer Counties.

10 Key Elements of the Program:

  1. Comprehensive guidance and counseling.
  2. Tutoring and study skills instruction leading to the completion of secondary education.
  3. Alternative secondary education services.
  4. Summer employment opportunities.Paid or unpaid work experience.
  5. Paid or unpaid work experience.
  6. Occupational skill training.
  7. Leadership development opportunities.
  8. Supportive services.
  9. Adult mentoring for not less than 12 months.
  10. Follow-up services for not less than 12 months after program completion.

On-The-Job Training

This program offers on-the-job training in specific occupational areas with a contracted employer. The employer utilizes his/her training methods, facilities, and resources in shaping the customer into a skilled employee. The customer is exposed to and trained in all aspects of a specific job and given every opportunity to develop valuable skills.
